Since graduation from Willem de Kooning in 2009, Marianne Lock has worked as a freelance illustrator and all-round creator in Rotterdam. In her career so far she has sewn two life-size horses, painted hundreds of pet cats, built a giant cardboard cake and made a porn animation, but illustration is her main game. Nowadays she loves to work in branding and make products with her illustrations, such as posters, cards and clothing.
Her style has been described as playful, with the handmade and often nostalgic feel of real materials, such as watercolour paint. As she is a huge fan of animals & nature, folklore art and the small joys of life, her work often reflects either of these elements, with a distinctive simplicity and style.
